What’s the #1 reason to learn piano at FSMPA?
Our teachers are dedicated to learning about your personal goals and helping you to achieve them, and we incorporate all the details into our weekly lesson (ex. music theory and sight reading into your music lessons) right along with helping you learn your favorite part of music.

Our teachers have warm personalities, are extremely friendly and dedicated to teaching you the styles that you want to learn. This ensures that
YOU get to choose what your goals are and meet them in a way that works best for you.
What styles of piano do you teach?
We teach all styles of music, from the traditional method series teaching approach, to playing by ear and improvisation, through the classics, popular, blues, jazz, ragtime, contemporary – you name it!

How qualified are your piano instructors?
With over 45 teachers, all with University training and/or professional performance experience - you can be confident that we have the right teacher to meet your needs.

What will I learn from piano lessons at FSMPA?
Beginner piano students can expect to work on technique, simple songs and melodies, sight reading and theory. Our instructors balance musicianship and fun by making sure that each lesson presents a new technical challenges or theory concept, and ends with something fun, such as your favorite melody or song. We use a variety of piano method books, and encourage students to learn their favorite tunes. Plus, teachers have an iPad in every studio to incorporate fun learning apps and sample video examples, etc.

Do I need to purchase a piano to learn the instrument?
To learn in your lesson and to practice at home, you will need a piano or keyboard (for your convenience, students will use one of ours at their lesson). We have a list of music stores you can purchase from, but the choice is yours.

Piano Lab Classes

4-10 year olds

These are introductory piano classes for beginners with up to six students in each class. We teach a notation-based program, focusing on reading music and rhythms, technique, ensembles, and music theory activities. Since the classes are designed for students to progress at their own pace, the teacher helps each student individually on the full-size digital pianos for a small portion of the class during headphone time, and we also play together in ensemble (great for building listening skills and steady rhythm). Parent Performance Days are scheduled throughout the year, and the teacher will assess the student’s progress and recommend private piano lessons at the appropriate time. Students should have a keyboard or piano at home to practice weekly assignments.

Piano Lab Basic Class Activities:

• 55 Minute class
• 5 Minutes Parent Time
• Piano Lesson Book
• Piano Workbook
• Theory Book
• Technique, warm-ups
• Individual learning and assignments at students level
• Workbook at the table (theory book)
• Review songs in books with accompaniment
• Parent questions and assignment clarification

Private Piano Lessons

Ages 4 to adult

In a private piano lesson, the teacher has the opportunity to help the student individually for the entire lesson time, and structures each lesson personally for the student depending on their skill level and goals. We teach all styles of music, from the traditional method series teaching approach, to playing by ear and improvisation, through the classics, popular, blues, jazz, ragtime, contemporary – you name it!

Private piano students are welcome to perform at our Center Stage Music Shows, MusicFest in June (optional), take the Music Theory Test (graded event in our medal series) and also Yearly Judged Music Performance (judged event in our medal series).

Private Piano Lessons Basics:
30, 45, or 60 Minute Weekly Lessons

Private piano lessons are designed for students to progress at their own pace. Students/parents have input about the style and genre of music they would like to work on. Parent is welcome to observe the lessons, or learn to play right along with the student FREE.
